Welcome to the Library's Strategic Plan

The Library presents its strategic plan as a guide for the next three years. This plan encompasses a shared mission, vision, and values, with broad goals, user-focused objectives, and specific action plans for how we will meet the information needs of our users.  Currently available are the mission, vision, values, and goals developed by the library staff which were used as the underpinning for all our planning efforts.  We have received feedback on these statements from all library staff and a group of dedicated users.  As we move forward, we will share the  objectives and action plans with you.  We encourage you to offer comments and questions about the plan to the Library Director, Carolyn Reid, at careid@med.cornell.edu.

Mission

The Library advances the intellectual growth of the Weill Cornell community by selecting, acquiring, organizing, preserving, and providing access to the highest quality information when and where it is needed.  Through education, professional expertise, and a stimulating and supportive environment, the Library ensures effective retrieval and use of information to create new knowledge and improve health.

Vision

The Library will remain the leading provider of information and indispensable partner to the Weill Cornell faculty, staff and students in their pursuit of excellence in education, clinical care, research, and community service.

Information discovery alone or in consultation with expert library staff guides can occur anywhere at anytime. The Library of 2010 promotes scholarly contemplation while maximizing opportunities for interaction with collaborators, library staff, and information resources.  Library space and technology optimizes and preserves access to essential print resources and to expanding online collections. Seamless access to the collections and services of all Cornell University libraries facilitates their use. The quality and efficiency of interactions at our single service point provide value and saves time for our users, who recognize the technological and biomedical information expertise of the library staff. Our users call upon us to address complex and evolving information management issues, and this requires continual professional development to maintain excellence.  We have fully integrated assessment and service standards into our practice to achieve this vision and to ensure that we meet the needs of the Weill Cornell community.  We innovate and advance the management of biomedical information.  We achieve our vision through successful collaboration with other areas of the College and the broader library and health sciences community.
