Weill Cornell Visitors at Ithaca/Geneva: Library Resources and Services

Greetings Weill Cornell Faculty, Staff and Students visiting Ithaca or Geneva! The staff and resources of all the Cornell University Libraries are available to you to support your research, learning and practice. There are 20 Cornell libraries associated with this campus including Geneva. View a map with links to information about locations.

Accessing Electronic Resources
  • The electronic collections available to the Cornell community vary among Cornell campuses and branches. While using a computer on the Ithaca or Geneva campus, you will be able to access almost all the resources licensed for the Cornell University Libraries. If you are unable to access a Weill Cornell Medical Library resource, you will need to login as a remote user using Web Virtual Private Network (WebVPN) provided by Information Technologies & Services. UpToDate is not available remotely.
  • Weill Cornell Medical College personnel with a dual appointment to the CU Ithaca Campus are eligible for a CU Network ID (NetID) and remote access to electronic resources. Visit the Network ID page for the application form.

Borrowing Library Materials
  • Weill Cornell faculty, staff and students can register to borrow materials in-person from the Cornell University Libraries by presenting WCMC ID. The loan period is generally six months. If necessary, items borrowed from Ithaca may be returned at the Weill Cornell Medical Library. Please advise library staff that you are returning item(s) from a different library.

Requesting Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery
  • Weill Cornell faculty, staff and students should use the TripSaver online form to request items not held by the Weill Cornell Medical Library. This includes items at Cornell libraries in Ithaca/Geneva unless you wish to retrieve the material in person.
  • WCMC Library materials that are not accessible electronically may be requested at no charge when you are off-campus. When completing your TripSaver request please select "No, I do not want to use the TripSaver service" and indicate in the Comments field the dates that you are off-campus and your delivery information. Physical items will be available for pickup at the Medical Library, unless you arrange to have the book sent to another Cornell University Library.
  • WCMC-Qatar faculty, staff and students should use the Distributed eLibrary's Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan service.
Using Your Laptop in the Library
  • The Wireless Access in the Library page provides information about connecting to the Cornell University network with your laptop. A Cornell University Network ID (NetID) entitles you to full access. Visit the Network ID page to see if you are eligible.
Consulting with an Expert Staff Member
  • Library staff are here to help. For reference help from one of the 20 Cornell University Libraries including the Medical Library, see the Reference Services page for contact information, live chat, and training opportunities.
Finding Research Collaborators and Resources
  • Use VIVO, the Virtual Life Sciences Library, to discover who's working on a particular research topic, where they've taught and published recently, what facilities are available and what online tools can expedite your research.
